Prince Street Pizza has officially arrived in Pasadena, bringing its legendary Sicilian-style squares and Neapolitan slices to the heart of Old Town.
The highly anticipated pizzeria opened its doors in February 2024, but we only recently stumbled upon it while wandering through the bustling streets of Pasadena. Originally founded in New York City in 2012, Prince Street Pizza has built a reputation for serving some of the best slices around, and now locals and visitors alike can experience their signature flavors right on Colorado Boulevard.
We decided to check it out on a busy Saturday afternoon, and the spot was already drawing in a steady crowd.
What Makes Prince Street Pizza Special?
Prince Street Pizza uses a specialized water filtration system that mimics NYC’s unique water composition to ensure the dough has the same texture as its original New York City location. And apparently, the sauce is made fresh daily.
According to their website, the recipes have been passed down for generations, and their motto is “If it works on pasta, it belongs on pizza.”
What Did I order?
The Sicilian-style square pizza caught my eye, and the fact that I could order by the slice was perfect for me. I ordered a square of the “Hot Girl Pie,” made with pepperoni, Mozzarella, Romano cheese, jalapenos, and hot honey. My slice was crispy, and the flavors were spot on.
I love the names of some of their popular pies.
- The Naughty Pie
- The Original Prince
- Spicy Vodka
What You Can’t Have at Prince Street Pizza?
A sign posted over the pizzas tells you that you can’t order these items.
- Ranch
- Bleu Cheese
- Ketchup
I didn’t know ketchup was a thing for people to put on their slices. That’s a new one for me!
Why Pasadena?
Pasadena has a growing food scene, and Old Town is bustling with street traffic, so I see why this works. I also think there is a demand for East Coast-style foods in our town.
Other Popular Pizza Places in Pasadena
Prince Street Pizza does have competition, but the fact that they sell pizza by the slice sets them apart. Setebello is another great spot, but its location on Lake Ave is more of a sit-down restaurant. There is also Brooklyn Square Pizza, but have yet to try this place out.
Final Thoughts?
Prince Street Pizza is a winner and a great spot to grab a quick slice while enjoying Old Town. This spot is nearby if you are visiting any of the Pasadena Hotels, such as the Westin, Hyatt Place, or the Mariott Courtyard. I think you can’t go wrong with their pizza, which the whole family will love. They also sell arancini, salad and cheesecake.
Check it out the next time you visit Norton Simon Museum, Pacific Asia Museum, or after a day of shopping.
Prince Steet Pizza offers whole square and round pies and takeout.
